I have a greeting card on my windowsill with this quote: “Faith is taking the first step, even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
It’s a paraphrase from Martin Luther King, Jr. I wonder if he would have been as brave and tireless if he could have known he would be assassinated. Somehow, I think he still would have been. Faith in the Bible and our savior, Jesus Christ, permeated everything he said and wrote. He knew his calling and his mission. That’s the paradox of getting close to God: people think it blinds you. But it doesn’t. It helps you see, for real.
How about the rest of us?
What’s the top of the staircase in your life? Business success? Healing your marriage? Rearing healthy kids? Making The New York Times best-sellers list? Taking the oath of office as our President, and making it a very good run?
What will you step up to and move toward, this year?
In honor of MLK and other world-class encouragers, I challenge you to name it . . . and then go out and get it.
